#GiveAllTheThings: You Can Do This Project Bracelets.

What you can win: An entire bag of You Can Do This Project bracelets/bands! (I think there's 50/bag? 100? I don't remember, but it's "a lot".)

Duck not included.

Made possible by: These bands were manufactured by Hope Paige Medical and paid for, in part, with a Seeds grant from the Diabetes Hands Foundation.

Why you want this: These bands were originally purchased with the intention of handing them out at conferences in 2013 - after exhibiting at both Friends For Life and TCOYD - Omaha this year, we have some leftovers!

I know that several times in the past individuals have asked me how to get one of these - while I have some extras, it's not possible for me (financially, time-wise, etc.) to mail a bracelet to everyone who has asked for one. (And because Seeds grant money was used to purchase them, it gets kind of sticky to "resell" them, even to cover shipping costs. They have to be used for what they were intended for - to give away.)

But send one person a bag of them, to distribute to others in their community (or as they see fit)? I can do that.

Having a small reminder on your wrist of the diabetes online community and the fact that, whatever you're facing, you aren't alone - it can be a huge help.

To enter today's contest: Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter today's contest. You will earn two entries by leaving a comment on this blog post telling me who you would share your bracelets with  (required) if you won. You can also earn extra entries for liking the You Can Do This Project Facebook page and following @YCDTProject on Twitter - so, four entries are possible per person!

Rules: This contest ends tonight at midnight CST, and is open only to... wait, no, it's open to everyone. (How awesome would it be to get some You Can Do This love to another country?!) #GiveAllTheThings contests are intended for people with diabetes (or their caregivers) only. Since the Rafflecopter widget requires you to share an email address, I'll be emailing the winner (as well as announcing them through an update on this post) Thursday morning - you'll need to respond to me by Sunday evening (let's say 7:00 pm CST) with your shipping address in order to claim your prize. If I don't hear from you, I'll pick a new winner.

Getting to the post office doesn't happen too often with a four-month-old, so forgive me if it takes a bit for me to get them to you.

Good luck!

  4. I work at one of our local public schools so I would definitely share these with the students I know with Type 1 and the families that I know. I would also share them with our school nurses to share with the students I miss. I would also keep some on hand for those awesome times when I meet another PWD out and about.

  5. I would LOVE these! I haven't taken mine off since it was given to me over a year ago.

If I won, I would hand these out to my wonderful Type 1 parents in our local support group.

  9. Hi Kim! Thank you for all you do for the DOC and for doing the give away every year! You help give strength to a lot of people with T1 and their families. I would first of all wear one, and it would be a great way to educated people on the project & T1 in general when they ask me what it means! I would give them to anyone who wants one, and give a lot out at JDRF annual walk for diabetes :)

  10. I would hand these out to anyone going through a struggle of any kind! But I would proudly wear to tell people that even though I have T1D, it doesn't have me!

  12. I would share this with my family and friends, first and foremost, because they are my biggest supporters. I would also make a point of giving them to anyone I know who is struggling with anything, be it medical problems, friends who are students and feeling overwhelmed and anything one who could use any encouragement!

  15. I would immediately give a bracelet to my friend who is struggling with his new Type 2 diagnosis for a reminder of what I’ve been telling him over the past couple of weeks. And I would keep the rest on hand to give to the newly diagnosed PWDs that I have a chance to mentor through the JDRF in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

  16. Don't enter me for the draw, but I wanted to say that finding those "You can do this" videos when I was first diagnosed was AWESOME! It really was wonderful to hear so many people being honest about having challenges to overcome and lousy days, but still keeping it all together.

...can I become friends with whomever does win and send them a nice letter which I "accidentally on purpose" put a self-addressed stamped envelope in? ;-)

  17. We would share with the Beta Club at Oviedo High School, they support local JDRF fund raising activities through out the year.

  18. My daughter has worn hers since FFL 2012. She would share with her friends at school that want hers.

    Spencer in Orlando

  19. This is Spencer. I wear my "You Can Do This" bracelet everyday. I have not taken it off since the day I got it. I wear it during softball games, at school, and everywhere I go! Whenever I think I can't do something, I always look down at it and say to myself "You Can Do This!!!" This is the best bracelet ever!! And it would make a good stocking stuffer... ;)

  20. I would pass them out to all my friends and family. They are so supportive when it comes to me dealing with Type 1 Diabetes!

  21. I'd share with all the people who have commented on my bracelet [or who I've pointed it out to ;)], and the awesome PWDs in my life :]. (...Does it count that I'd share with ME for a new one for backup? Because after almost a year and a half and all those blood transfusions/ER visits I'm getting a bit paranoid of it breaking ;).)
