#GiveAllTheThings: Jerry the Bear.

UPDATE: This contest is now closed. Congratulations to Heather (and by extension, the Insulliance program at Oakland's Children's Hospital)!

Wow! What a fantastic giveaway! I have diabetes myself, but If I were to win the Jerry the Bear, I would donate it to the Children's Hospital Oakland, CA Insulliance program. Insulliance connects those who are newly diagnosed and youth with diabetes with young adult mentors who also have diabetes. I think Jerry would fit in perfectly with our model of mentorship and aid our efforts to help youth feel connected while in the hospital for a clinic visit, DKA, or when being diagnosed. :-) I'm crossing my fingers.

What you can win: One Jerry the Bear! (Prize value US$249.)

Made possible by: Jerry's family at Sproutel.

Why you want this: Jerry is an interactive teddy bear that teaches children with type 1 diabetes how to manage their blood glucose levels, recognize their symptoms, and maintain a healthy diet - all through play. Using games, positive reinforcement, and real world scenarios, Jerry allows children to learn the skills necessary to take care of themselves for the rest of their lives. Learn more about him on his website.

To enter today's contest: Use the Rafflecopter widget below to put your name in the running! You can be entered to win up to four times - two for a blog comment left on this post (required), and one each for a Facebook Like or Twitter follow for Jerry the Bear.

In your comment, tell me a little about who you're trying to win the bear for!

**Please note that Jerry is currently backordered, so your Bear would arrive sometime in early spring 2014.**

Rules: This contest ends tonight at midnight CST, and is open only to U.S. addresses. #GiveAllTheThings contests are intended for people with diabetes (or their caregivers) only. Since the Rafflecopter widget requires you to share an email address, I'll be emailing the winner (as well as announcing them through an update on this post) Thursday morning - you'll need to respond to me by Sunday evening (let's say 7:00 pm CST) with your shipping address in order to claim your prize. If I don't hear from you, I'll pick a new winner.

Good luck!

  5. Jerry the bear would go to my little buddy Owen who is 2 1/2 years old and was diagnosed with type one when he was 18 months. This bear would not only be beneficial for him but also for his twin sister who is learning about diabetes with him. I believe it would also help him, his father, and I who are all type one diabetics to share our experiences.

  6. My 5 year old son, Zeke, is a type one diabetic. He was diagnosed just after he turned 3. February 7, 2012 was the day our family was changed forever. Having a toy that has type one diabetes to help him cope, understand, and have fun would be extraordinary!

  7. I know 2 little brothers that are both type 1 diabetics and they would absolutely love this bear. What an amazing piece of technology that will teach the children that they are not alone with diabetes as well as comfort them in their every day struggles. They would both appreciate this bear so much!

  11. My coworker's daughter was dxd almost 2 years ago at the age of 3. I wasn't dxd until I was a teenager, so my coworker and I chat about it, but it must be so much harder on a kiddo who can't necessarily put into words what is going on. This looks like a great tool to help them out :)

  12. I have 3 children and they are all Type 1 Diabetics. This bear would be great for my youngest son who along with being a Type 1 Diabetic also has Down Syndrome. This would help him understand better why we poke him and give him needles all day long :( I'm sure his Type 1 Sister would also love it!

  13. My three year old daughter Katharine was diagnosed with T1 about 2 years ago and I think Jerry the Bear would be a wonderful surprise for her. That being said I think this bear would be awesome for any of the children mentioned here (or any child with T1 for that matter), you can't go wrong. So thank you so much for doing this. Those little buggers go through alot with this disease and its nice that they can have something special like this that they can relate to. Happy Holidays to everyone!

  19. While my little girl doesn't have diabetes (hopefully ever), I do. I would love to win this so she could learn about Mommy's diabetes and what I have to do (and, unfortunately, what she may be able to do to help me in case the need arises).

  21. My naturally sweet daughter, Madilynn, is who I would love to win this for. She was diagnosed at 18 mo and is now 7!!!! Now that she is getting older it is time to learn carb counting. I do believe Jerry's way may be a tad, well a lot, more fun than the way mom does it :)
I've always had the control, but as she gets older it is time to let her help with it all. She might not be ready to change a pump or cgm site, but she is ready for carb counting.

  24. Thanks for the giveaway and letting more people know about Jerry and his family, Kim! Love the video campaign you've teamed up with them on, and it's great to see so much interest in the bear. I'd love to get a Jerry, and be able to give him to our local D-Camp for the kids to use and fun with during camping season but also maybe to "loan" out to families who might want to use him.
